  工业设计隶属于机械设计及理论二级学科。研究所现有教师10人，其中副教授1人、讲师8人。工业设计研究所是辽宁省艺术类工业产品设计人才培养基地，目前有五个工作室分别是：创新设计工作室、公共环境设施工作室、产品动画工作室、产品设计工作室、产品广告与摄影实验室。 主要研究方向：产品的创意设计、产品的设计开发、产品视觉传达设计、产品的人—机安全及界面分析与设计、产品的环境与装饰设计及工业美学等。重点开展“大中型成套装备”的工业产品设计方面的研究工作。近年来，研究所参与承担了国家科技支撑计划项目、国家自然科学基金项目4项、承担企业合作实际项目40余项，获得国家实用新型专利5项，外观设计专利6项和软件注册权1项。 Institute of Industrial Design Institute of Industrial Design was established in 1999, which is affiliated with the second-level discipline which is mechanical design and theory.
